About

I’m a documentary video editor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in social issue documentaries and especially like to be the one to help bring a project to completion for a festival screening or broadcast.

I have a classic editing style that in general doesn’t draw attention to itself, except (perhaps) in moments of musical montage. I have an experimental bent at heart, and love the documentaries The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On, Sans Soleil, and The Act of Killing. My editing work has been shown on the PBS series Independent Lens and at SXSW, Tribeca, Los Angeles Film Festival, DOC-NYC, and ZIFF.

I edit on Premiere Pro CC, Final Cut Pro X, and Final Cut Pro 7. If you have a project in the works let’s talk!

“Corey was my editor on the feature documentary, LOVE BOAT: TAIWAN. We had a ridiculously tight turnaround of about six weeks to get a rough cut to submit to film festivals and Corey was totally on point during the process. She was diligent, dedicated, and always available to discuss and work on the edit.
We were working with about thirty interviews as well as historical and archival footage from several different sources and Corey ‘s insights were invaluable in winnowing down the most important and relevant clips. She helped with crafting the storyline and added her expertise to my initial draft of the film. She also contributed an excellent sense of how to match images with music, which greatly enhanced the film.
Now that the film is finished and has screened several times, many people have complimented the editing and how it clearly communicates a very complicated story. Corey is a great editor and I would happily work with her again.”

“Corey Ohama is both a talented editor and a wonderful person to work with. She brings skill, creativity, and good judgment to a team and she is open minded, purposeful and committed. Her work and her storylining was behind the successful development of an award-winning documentary, and I know we could not have done it without her. I would recommend Corey to anyone looking for a video editor!”
